I've been tucked into my mountainside cabin in rural Vermont for seven weeks now. SEVEN weeks. How's everyone doing? Seriously, let me know how you're holding up. This has been such a quick and drastic adjustment for all of us, in so many ways. Not only are we facing the health-related realities of a global pandemic, but the economic and social effects too. Many have lost income, many are feeling isolated, and all of us are coming to terms with this new normal.
My hope is this enforced downtime will allow those of us at home to rest and reflect, and perhaps redirect our attention to whatever we've found matters to us. Whether that's reconnecting with something we never found time for, knocking overdue items off the to-do list, or becoming more intentional with how we spend our time, rest is so important to make sure we're living the lives we want to live.
May brings us Mother's Day, which feels different for all of us. For some it's a time to celebrate, for others a time to mourn. Many of you know my relationship with my own mother was complicated, and she died of dementia just two years ago. I wrote a song about dealing with that experience, and although it's not an uplifting holiday song, it's a true emotional journey. Click the photo below to watch the video.
I will continue to offer my Sarah King Streams series on Thursdays at 7pm Eastern for the month of May as venues continue to be closed. The streams will be on Facebook and Instagram only as we've been running into some issues with the sound on YouTube. Check my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sarahkingsings/ or my Instagram profile https://www.instagram.com/sarahkingsings/ to tune in or check out replays. Send me any requests ahead of time and I will do my best to honor them. Please note you do NOT need a Facebook account to watch the live streams.
I am incredibly thankful to everyone who's taken time out of their days to tune into my live streams, and to everyone who's made a purchase or donated to my virtual tip jar over the last seven weeks. Playing live music is my favorite thing in the world and what I miss right now is sharing that feeling with you. Knowing you're listening brings me so much joy. If you're looking to show your support right now but aren't sure where to start, here are a few ideas:
- Share my streams and videos on social media to help get the word out
- Subscribe to my YouTube channel - I need to reach a threshold in order to claim my URL before someone else does!
- Follow me on Spotify
- Purchase a CD or other merch from my online store - everything is now in a "pay what you want" category to ensure music is accessible regardless of your current situation
- Become an Executive Producer member for an exciting new opportunity I'm currently working on
I want to close on a high note, letting you know it's a beautiful, warm, sunny day here on the mountain, and I have an incredibly exciting project on the horizon. Even in these times of quarantine and distance, connection and creation finds a way. I don't want to say too much just yet, but I would like to say sometimes in life we get second chances that are even better than the first chances that may have passed us by. It's never too late to go after what you want.
Let me know how you're doing, what you're doing, what you're reading or listening to that's helping you get through this, and we'll talk soon.
Thank you for supporting my dreams.
